Buddhistische Bergklöster in Korea, ursprüngliche Lebensräume in Mexiko und archäologische Fundstätten im Iran: Vor wenigen Wochen hat die UNESCO die neuen Welterbe-Auszeichnungen für 2018 bekannt gegeben. Insgesamt wurden 19 Natur- und Kulturdenkmäler in die Welterbeliste aufgenommen. Damit gibt es aktuell 1.092 UNESCO-Welterbestätten in 167 Ländern.
Aus den diesjährigen Neuzugängen haben wir 4 besondere Naturlandschaften ausgewählt, die wir euch hier in einem Kurzportrait vorstellen wollen.
CHINA: FANJINGSHAN
Urige Wälder, bedrohte Tiere und ein göttliches Heiligtum in schwindelerregender Höhe: Es gibt gute Gründe, den Berg Fanjingshan in der südwestchinesischen Provinz Guizhou als Welterbe auszuzeichnen. Auf einer Höhenlage von 480 bis 2.570 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel befindet sich hier, mitten im Wuling-Gebirge, das größte zusammenhängende Buchenprimärwaldgebiet der Subtropen. Seltene Eichenarten sowie, die zu den Buchen zählende, Scheinkastanie sind nur zwei der zahlreichen Baumfamilien. Versteckt im üppigen Grün tummeln sich auch zahlreiche exotische Tierarten, darunter die Graue Stumpfnase (Rhinopithecus brelichi), eine Primatenart aus der Gruppe der Schlankaffen, der Chinesische Riesensalamander und der Königsfasan.

FRANKREICH: CHAÎNE DES PUYS
Die Vulkankette Chaîne des Puys befindet sich im Westen der französischen Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Die heute erloschenen Vulkane entstanden vor rund 35 Millionen Jahren im Zuge der alpidischen Gebirgsbildung. Außerdem gilt die Region im Zusammenspiel mit der so genannten Limagne-Verwerfung als wichtiges Zeugnis der Plattentektonik – in diesem Fall das Aufreißen des westeuropäischen Grabens (kontinentales Riftsystem). Heute sind die bewaldeten Vulkane zwar nur noch in Resten erhalten, aber eingebettet in eine malerische Kulturlandschaft ist die Chaîne des Puys auch Millionen Jahre nach ihrer Entstehung allemal eine Reise wert…

RUSSLAND: BIKIN-FLUSSTAL
Sibirischer Tiger, Moschushirsch oder Vielfraß: In den ausgedehnten Nadel- und Laubwäldern am Bikin-Fluss leben viele bemerkenswerte Vertreter des Tierreichs. Die Fauna umfasst Arten der Taiga-Region wie auch der südlichen Mandschurei. Bei der über 1 Million Hektar großen Welterbestätte handelt es sich um eine Erweiterung des südlich gelegenen Zentral-Sichote-Alin. Das Bikin-Flusstal befindet sich im äußersten Südosten Russlands, in der Region Primorje, die sich bis zum Japanischen Meer (Pazifik) erstreckt. Die nächstgelegenen größeren Städte sind Wladiwostok im Süden sowie Chabarowsk im Norden.

KOLUMBIEN: NATIONALPARK CHIRIBIQUETE
Tafelberge mitten im Dschungel: Im Südosten Kolumbiens befindet sich ein einzigartiges Naturparadies von unschätzbarem Wert – der Nationalpark Chiribiquete. 1989 gegründet, wurde der Park erst in diesem Jahr auf eine Fläche von insgesamt rund 4,3 Millionen Hektar erweitert. Damit ist der „Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete“ nicht nur das größte kolumbianische Schutzgebiet, sondern auch der größte Tropennationalpark der Welt!
Zwischen Anden, Amazonas und Orinoco gelegen, umfasst Chiribiquete vielfältige Lebensräume, wie immerfeuchter Tieflandregenwald, Flüsse aber auch trockene Felsgebiete oder Savanne. Der Nationalpark erstreckt sich über die beiden Departamentos Caquetá und Guaviare und befindet sich auf einer Höhe zwischen 200 bis 1.000 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Eine Besonderheit sind die senkrecht aus dem Dschungel empor ragenden Tafelberge, die so genannten „Tepuyes“.
Als Refugium für bedrohte Tiere und Pflanzen kommt Chiribiquete eine außerordentliche Bedeutung zu. Die Biodiversität im Nationalpark ist beispiellos. Über 300 Vogel- und Schmetterlingsarten, 48 Fledermausarten, sieben Affen-Spezies sowie vier verschiedene Raubkatzenarten sind hier zuhause. Unter anderem finden Jaguar, Tapir, Gürteltier und der seltene Rosa Flussdelfin in der entlegenen Wildnis Schutz. Da bisher nur wenige wissenschaftliche Expeditionen in das schwer zugängliche Gebiet unternommen wurden, gehen Biologen davon aus, dass in Chiribiquete viele Arten noch unentdeckt sind.
Heute leben im Nationalpark mehrere indigene Volksstämme. Manche davon sind bisher nicht in Kontakt mit der „modernen Welt“ getreten. Auch ihrem Schutz dient der Park. Imposante Felszeichnungen der Ureinwohner konnten auf ein Alter von ca. 20.000 Jahren zurück datiert werden. Damit gilt Chiribiquete als älteste Fundstätte menschlicher Besiedlung im Amazonasgebiet.
Offiziell ist der Park zur Zeit für die Öffentlichkeit gesperrt. Bislang gibt es keinerlei touristische Infrastruktur in Chiribiquete. Wer weiß, wie lange noch…
